KATHMANDU: The Bhaktapur District Court has ordered the release of medical entrepreneur and campaigner Durga Prasai.
A bench of Judge Navaraj Dahal directed authorities to release Prasai without extending his judicial remand, rejecting a police request to continue the investigation through additional custody.
Court Registrar Dal Bahadur Bajimaya confirmed that the court declined the police’s request for a remand extension and ordered Prasai’s release.
Prasai was arrested from his residence in Thimi, Bhaktapur, on Sunday night by a joint team from the Bhaktapur District Police Office and the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office.
Police had accused him of inciting social disharmony.
Earlier on Sunday, Prasai announced plans to intensify a movement calling for the restoration of Nepal as a Hindu state and the reinstatement of the monarchy.
He has previously been arrested on multiple occasions over allegations of making provocative public statements.
