EU Ambassador Cody pays farewell call on Ministers Khatiwada, Bhattarai



KATHMANDU: The Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Nepal Veronica Cody held a farewell meetings with Finance Minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada and Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai.

Ambassador Cody who is returning home after completing her three years-long tenure in Nepal promised an increment in the grants and aid provided by EU in the days ahead in her farewell meeting with Finance Minister Khatiwada on Monday afternoon.

During the meeting, Minister Khatiwada appreciated the EU’s role in creating a multi-polar world and also for the role the EU has played as an alternative political power in the world.

Minister Khatiwada expressed his commitment to strive further to take Nepal’s relation with the EU to a new height and reiterated Nepal’s desire to see a unified and strong EU.

According to the Finance Minister’s Secretariat, Minister Khatiwada expressed his opinion that the EU can contribute a
lot in Nepal’s trade, employment, tourism, investment and economic recovery and EU’s ambassador Cody also assured to further support the country in all aspects possible through grants and aid.

Citing that Nepal has given top priority in upgrading the international airports and has also been trying to make Nepal a destination for European tourists, Minister Khatiwada requested ambassador Cody to facilitate in granting Nepal the flight permission in European nations.

Ambassador Cody thanked the Nepal government for the coordination and support she entertained while her 3-year long tenure in Nepal and also promised to facilitate on behalf of Nepal to put in priority in the next phase of seven year’s aid cycle.

Meanwhile, EU Ambassador Cody also met Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai.

“During her tenure of three years in Nepal, her initiatives to strengthen Nepal-EU relations at multiple levels and EU’s contributions to development projects in tourism and aviation sectors in Nepal are commendable,” Minister Bhattarai said after the meeting.
