KATHMANDU: The ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is set to launch a new program titled “Citizens, Policy and Leadership” from August 17.
The party said the initiative aims to connect citizens’ complaints, suggestions, and expectations with the government’s policy formulation and implementation process.
In a press release issued on Sunday, the RSP announced that ministers representing the party in the government will be required to visit the party’s central office at least once every month to hold direct interactions with citizens and party members.
According to Joint General Secretary and Political Adviser to Prime Minister Balendra Shah, Ashim Shah, the program will be conducted in two phases.
Under the first phase, ministers will interact directly with the general public from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm, during which citizens will be able to present their complaints, problems, expectations, and suggestions.
The second phase, titled “Leadership Dialogue,” will begin after 6:00 pm. It will include a joint meeting of ministers, members of the party’s central committee, and members of the House of Representatives. The RSP said the meeting will discuss suggestions received during the citizen interaction as well as current political and policy-related issues.
According to the party, the program is intended to strengthen coordination among citizens, the government, the legislature, and the party organization. It aims to develop a common strategy for effectively addressing public concerns, make ministers directly accountable to citizens, and help determine the party’s position on policy and legislative matters by understanding the real problems faced by the public.
The program is also expected to improve the exchange of information and action plans among the party’s organizational structures, parliamentary party, and representatives serving in government.
In the statement, Joint General Secretary Shah said the initiative is being introduced to promote a people-responsive, transparent, and result-oriented political culture, emphasizing that the essence of democracy lies in elected leaders remaining continuously connected with citizens, listening to their concerns, and responding to their needs.
