KATHMANDU: A total of 1,016 coronavirus positive cases were reported in the last 24 hours in the highest single-day spike taking the national count to 28,257, Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population said on Tuesday.
Speaking at a regular press briefing this afternoon, Ministry’s Spokesperson Dr. Jageshwor Gautam said that 13,461 samples were tested through the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) method in the last 24 hours.
According to Dr. Gautam, 21 people from Jhapa, one from Khotang, 108 from Morang, one from Okhaldhunga, one from Panchthar, eight from Sunsari, two from Udayapur and three from Sankhuwasabha have been confirmed to have contracted the coronavirus.
Similarly, the coronavirus has been confirmed in 42 people from Bara, 64 people from Dhanusha, 24 people from Mahottari, 128 people from Parsa, 37 people from Rautahat, three people from Saptari, 107 people from Sarlahi and 16 people from Siraha.
A total of 17 people from Bhaktapur, 49 from Chitwan, two from Dhading, two from Dolakha, 138 from Kathmandu, 21 from Kavre, 50 from Lalitpur, 30 from Makwanpur, one from Sindhuli and three from Sindhupalchowk have been diagnosed coronavirus positive.
According to Dr. Gautam, the infection has been confirmed in three people from Baglung, two from Gorkha, 16 from Kaski, one from Lamjung, four from Nawalparasi East, one from Syangja and two from Tanahun.
He added that six people from Banke, nine from Bardiya, one from Dang, 19 from Kapilvastu, one from Nawalparasi West, one from Rolpa and 14 from Rupandehi have been confirmed to have coronavirus infection.
Likewise, five people from Dailekh, one from Rukum West and one from Surkhet have been diagnosed coronavirus positive.
Coronavirus infection has been confirmed in two people from Darchula, 46 from Doti, one from Kailali and one from Kanchanpur in Sudurpaschim Province, he said.
Meanwhile, as many as 17,580 have recovered across the country so far. As many as 85 have been discharged from hospitals and isolation centers in the last 24 hours, he shared.
At present, 10,563 people are in isolation and 13,926 are in various quarantine facilities.
Nepal has reported seven new deaths. With this, the death toll has reached 114 he said.
