Monetary assistance to families of Lidi landslide victims

KATHMANDU: The bereaved families of the victims of recent Lidi landslide in Jugal rural municipality-2 have been given the monetary assistance.

They received Rs 100 thousand each from the local government, said rural municipality chair Hom Narayan Shrestha. Besides, they have been provided Rs 25,000 per dead for performing last rites rituals.

Moreover, Rs 25,000 has been given for per missing person in the disaster. The affected families have in total received from Rs 125 thousand to 250 thousand, according to Shrestha.

Former lawmaker Subhash Karmacharya was there to hand over the monetary relief to the victims’ families.

The death toll from the rain-triggered landslide has reached 22 as three more dead bodies of victims were recovered as of Monday.

The landslide swept away as many as 37 houses and left 39 people missing on Friday morning. Search is on for the remaining missing persons.
