Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki on heavy rain alert



KATHMANDU: With the monsoon remaining active across Nepal, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in several provinces, raising the risk of floods, landslides, and other weather-related disasters.

According to the Department, the weather is generally cloudy across the country. Moderate rainfall is occurring at some places in Bagmati and Gandaki provinces and at a few places in Koshi, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces. One or two places in Lumbini Province are also experiencing thunderstorms and lightning.

The Department said the weather will remain generally cloudy across the country this afternoon. Moderate rain and snowfall are likely at many places in the mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, and at some places in the mountainous areas of Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Similarly, moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at many places in the hilly and Terai areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, as well as in many parts of Madhes Province.

The Department has also forecast moderate to heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning at a few places in the hilly areas of Karnali Province and the hilly and Terai areas of Sudurpaschim Province.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the mountainous, hilly, and Terai areas of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces; the mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi Province; and the hilly and Terai areas of Madhes and Lumbini provinces.

Tonight, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy across the country. Moderate to heavy rain and snowfall may occur at some places in the mountainous region.

Many places in the hilly and Terai areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, as well as in Madhes Province, are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. A few places in the hilly areas of Karnali and the hilly and Terai areas of Sudurpaschim may also receive moderate to heavy rainfall.

The Department has further warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall is possible in the Himalayan and hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, and at one or two places in the hilly and Terai areas of Lumbini Province.
