6-magnitude quake jolts Kathmandu Valley



KATHMANDU: A powerful earthquake of 6-magnitude has rocked the Kathmandu Valley on Wednesday morning.

According to National Seismological Center, Lainchaur, the tremor was recorded at 5:19 am with its epicenter at Ramche of Sindhupalchowk.

The tremors were felt in central districts including Kavrepalanchowk, Sindhupalchowk, Ramechhap, Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur.

Human casualties and the properties damaged by the earthquake are yet to be reported.

Earlier, a 5-magnitude earthquake had struck eastern Nepal on September 11 with its epicenter at Bahundangi in Jhapa district.

Chief of the National Seismological Center, Lainchaur, Lok Bijaya Adhikari said it is the aftershock of the mega earthquake that hit Nepal five years ago.

As many as 548 sftershocks of 4 or above 4-magnitude have occurred since the Gorkha earthquake occurred while those below four in magnitude are not recorded.

According to Adhikari, aftershocks of the Gorkha earthquake are expected to last up to 10 years.
