Govt to call an-all party meeting to combat COVID-19

KATHMANDU: The government is preparing to call an all-party meeting to discuss the coronavirus that continued its march across the world.

A meeting of the High-Level Coordination Committee to Control and Prevent COVID-19  held in Singha Durbar on Tuesday took a decision to this effect.

“Preparations have been made to discuss COVID-19 with all the political parties to convey a message that the government is jointly combating the novel virus,” said Minister Khatiwada.

However, Khatiwada did not disclose the date of meeting.

Earlier, Lawmaker Gagan Thapa had submitted a proposal of public importance to prevent the COVID-19 in a meeting of the House of Representatives. Thapa in the proposal underlined the need to move ahead with an integrated work-plan.

In response to lawmaker Thapa’s proposal, Minister for Health and Population Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal called for a collective effort to tackle the coronavirus stating that the government alone cannot deal with it.

The government has been maintaining high-alertness to prevent the novel virus which first broke out in Wuhan City of Hubei Province in China.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the COVID-19 has already spread to 110 countries, claiming lives of over 4,000 people and infecting 113,672 globally.
