Five roads completely obstructed due to monsoon-induced disasters

KATHMANDU: Five major road sections across the country have been completely blocked due to floods, landslides and other monsoon-related disasters, disrupting vehicular movement.

According to Department of Roads spokesperson Shubharaj Neupane, the affected roads include the Kantilo Highway section at Pangdur of Bagmati Rural Municipality-3 in Lalitpur, the Sitapaila–Dharke road section at Thulo Khola of Nagarjun Municipality-8 in Kathmandu, the Mid-Hill Highway section at Bokhim of Bhojpur Municipality-5 in Koshi Province, and the Mechi Highway section at Rajduwali of Ilam Municipality-9.

The department has mobilized heavy equipment including dozers, excavators and loaders to clear landslides and repair the damaged sections to resume traffic.

Police have urged the public to use alternative routes where available due to the disruptions.

The Mid-Hill Highway section at Bokhim in Bhojpur has been partially operational after flooding damaged the road.

Meanwhile, vehicular movement along the Khurkot–Nepalthok–Katunjebesi section of the BP Highway has been restricted to between 4:00 am and 6:00 pm.

Night-time traffic has also been halted along the Hetauda–Bhimphedi–Bagmati–Lalitpur section of the Kantilo Highway due to safety concerns.

The Araniko Highway remains obstructed in Sindhupalchok at Charkilo of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-4 and the Kodari area due to landslides, according to police.

Authorities have advised travelers to check the latest road conditions with concerned agencies before starting journeys during the monsoon season and exercise extra caution in high-risk areas.
