Nepal records no new coronavirus case today

NA teams deployed in risk zones to collect over 5,000 samples

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population today said the country did not record any positive coronavirus case today.

Nepal has, however, 110 coronavirus positive cases. A total of 31 people have recovered and discharged from the hospitals so far.

Speaking at the regular press briefing on Sunday, Bikash Devkota, spokesperson at Ministry of Health and Population said that no new cases have been recorded in the country in the past one day.

On Saturday, Nepal had reported seven new cases. Three women aged 18, 45, and 65 of Udayapur, Bhulke, men aged 17, 18, 18 of Kapilvastu, and 62 of Parsa, Chhapkaiya were diagnosed with the novel virus.

Their swabs samples were tested at Koshi Zonal Hospital in Biratnagar and National Public Health Laboratory, Teku, according to the Health Ministry.

Meanwhile, the Nepal Army has mobilized health teams to different Provinces with over 5,000 test-kits to collect the nasal and throat swabs of the suspected ones.

The health teams equipped with necessary medical appliances have been sent to Province-1, Province-2, Gandaki Province, and Province-5 on Friday. The COVID-19 Crisis Management Centre at Nepal Army’s Chhauni Barrack coordinated for it.

The team comprises trained persons from Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and the one from the Ministry of Health.

The swabs would be collected from Udayapur, Bara, Parsa, Rautahat, Nawalparasi Purba, Nawalparasi Paschim, Arghakhanchi, Rupandehi, Gulmi, Kapilvastu, Pyuthan, Dang, Banke and Bardiya, the places at high risk of COVID-19.

The team will collect the swab by May 10 and will send it to the lab for the test, according to the Ministry.
