37 Nepalis stranded in Korea after Korean Air refuses to board them

KATHMANDU: As many as 37 Nepalis who were preparing to arrive in Nepal were left by Korean Air at the airport.

They had booked a ticket to board a Korean Airlines flight from South Korea to Kathmandu at 5 am local time on Friday at Incheon International Airport in South Korea.

It was decided that 238 Nepalis would return home on that flight. However, representatives of the airline refused to board 37 people saying that the report of the coronavirus test was unclear.

However, the Nepali embassy in Seoul has said that a woman and 36 men stranded at the airport will be rescued through another flight.

The embassy said that a total of 37 Nepalis were denied repatriation due to errors in the coronavirus test reports of 34 people, immigration issues of two people and high body temperature of one person.

The embassy also said that it had agreed to manage passengers who were stranded due to errors in the PCR report and high body temperatures so that they would not have to buy tickets for the next flight.

Similarly, the local representative of NRNA had requested the embassy to coordinate the urges health institution to conduct PCR test again in free of cost.

The embassy also said that arrangements are being made to provide food and accommodation to the stranded Nepalis until the next flight.
