9 alleged in attacking traffic policeman to be sued in offenses against public order

District Administration Office grants remand for 7 days



KATHMANDU: Police have initiated an investigation against nine allegedly involved in assaulting a Traffic police officer inhumanely on Thursday.

The law enforcement agency has decided to sue them in offenses against public order.

According to DSP Santosh Tamang at Metropolitan Police Range, Lalitpur, District Administration Office, Lalitpur has granted permission to hold them in custody for investigation for seven days.

Some of the youths in the group involved in pulling the chariot of Rato Machindranath had thrashed traffic policeman Kamal Prasad Ghimire on Thursday afternoon.

Lalitpur Police has arrested Mahesh Bajracharya, 40, Rabin Shakya, 40, Prithbindu Maharjan, 39, Ravi Shakya,36, and Ashoj Kumar Maharjan,38, of Lalitpur Metropolitan City for attacking the police on duty.

Similarly, Subin Shakya and Dhruba Raj Bajracharya of Maha Laxmi Municipality, Shyam Shrestha of Thimi Bhaktapur and Yadav Lal Kayastha of Kathmandu Metropolitan City have also been nabbed for the brutal attack on the traffic policeman.

Citing the unrest in the area, District Administration Office Lalitpur has enforced a curfew from early Friday morning to 10 pm.
