Dhorpatan floods: 14 bodies retrieved, 41 still missing

Four identified



KATHMANDU: Fourteen people died and as many as 41 people went missing after the Sukurdung rivulet entered the human settlements in Dhorpatan municipality in Baglung district.

The floods had washed away the human settlements along the bank of the rivulet at 12:45 am (Wednesday midnight). Wards 8 and 9 have been the hardest-hit.

Only four among those retrieved dead bodies have been identified. According to DSP Rajendra Regmi of District Police Office, Baglung, the deceased are 26-year-old Kesh Maya BK, Bire BK, 45, Jivan BK, 22, and Dalle BK, 11, of Dhorpatan municipality-9.

The identities of three males, five females and four minors are yet to be ascertained.

The flood which started from Dhorpatan-9 at Wednesday midnight has also taken a heavy toll on wards 7 and 8, said DPO, Baglung.

According to Police Inspector Prakash Singh Bhandari, the chief of Area Police Office, Burtibang, 22-year-old Jivan BK, Narayan BK, 23, his one-year-old daughter and wife Tekmaya BK, 21, Manish BK, 16, of Dhortapan municipality-9 are among those missing in the floods.

Similarly, Shani BK, 28, Roshan BK, 10, Ravi BK, 5, Man Kumari BK, 26, and a new born of Ghattechaur have also gone missing.

A rescue team from Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force with the help of locals has been searching the missing people.

Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa’s team that had left for flood-hit Dhorpatan on Thursday to take stock of the incident site with relief materials returned to Kathmandu due to bad weather.
