Death toll in Sunsari Kaptanganj clash rises to three



SUNSARI: The death toll from the recent communal clash in Kaptanganj, Sunsari, has risen to three after another injured victim died during treatment on Tuesday morning.

According to police spokesperson Birendra KM, Rabindra Mehta succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu.

Two other victims injured in the same incident—Om Prakash Mehta and Jay Prakash Mehta—had died earlier. With Rabindra Mehta’s death, the number of fatalities from the Kaptanganj incident has reached three.

The violence erupted on Sunday night after a dispute between two communities escalated into a clash in Kaptanganj. Armed Police Force personnel opened fire to bring the situation under control.

Om Prakash Mehta, 25, of Dewanganj-4, died at the scene, while 22-year-old Jay Prakash Mehta of Dewanganj-3 died during treatment at Neuro Hospital in Biratnagar on Thursday after sustaining critical injuries.
