BIRGUNJ: Parsa will be implementing a district-wide prohibitory order from Monday to stem the spread of coronavirus after a surge in the number of cases and deaths of late.
A meeting of the District Security Committee held on Saturday decided to impose the prohibitory order after the pandemic started spreading at the community level and authorities are having a tough time managing the infected people.
Currently, the Birgunj Metropolitan City has enforced prohibitory order in the municipal area.
Chief District Officer Bishnu Kumar Karki said that the ban was imposed in accordance with Section 2 of the Infectious Diseases Act, 2020 BS and Section 6 of the Local Administration Act, 2028 BS to make the prevention, control, treatment and management of COVID-19 effective.
The administration has decided to close all shops, industries, businesses and services except health, drinking water, milk, electricity, fire brigade, communication, customs, ICP, quarantine, waste management, fuel, ambulance and medicine during the period.
The administration has stated that in addition to the Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force, the Nepal Army will also be mobilized in the contaminated zones as per sub-section 2 of section 6 of the Local Administration Act, 2028 BS.
Meanwhile, the district confirmed 45 new cases on Saturday night taking the total cases to 507.
A PCR test conducted at the laboratory of Narayani Hospital in Birgunj last night confirmed infection in 45 people, including 14 women and 31 men. The newly infected are 5-60 years old.
The infection has been confirmed in 16 persons of Birgunj Metropolitan City-11, 15 persons of ward no 4, four persons of ward no 13, one each from wards 3, 8 and 18 and five persons of Birgunj-25 Sirsia dry port.
Likewise, one person from Nirmalabasti of Thori Rural Municipality and one person from Sukhuwa Prasauni Rural municipality-2 were also found to have contracted coronavirus.
Earlier, 64 people, including a lawmaker, were found infected in the district on Friday night.
