Foundation stone laid for Motihari-Chitwan gas pipeline

PARSA: The expansion of Motihari-Chitwan and Amlekhgunj-Chitwan pipelines has begun here.

Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supply, Matrika Yadav, formally began the extension by placing a pillar mark at Amalekhgunj on Saturday.

With the Motihari-Chitwan gas pipeline, the expansion of the Amlekhjung-Chitwan petroleum pipeline will also begin. Nepal Oil Corporation has informed that the pipeline will be expanded to 62 km from Amlekhgunj to Lothar of Chitwan.

On the occasion, Minister Yadav informed that the extension of the pipeline was being carried out as per the plan of supplying fuel with the pipeline in various parts of the country.

Along with the petroleum products, the cooking gas would also be supplied via pipeline with the expansion, he added.

The estimated cost of the extension of the Amlekhgunj-Chitwan petroleum pipeline is Rs 5.67 billion, while Rs 4. 19 was required for storage of the petroleum products, according to Deputy Executive Director at NOC, Sushil Bhattarai.

The pipeline was being extended up to Chitwan for a lack of adequate space to store the fuel at Amlekhgunj. Once Chitwan is made the storage for petroleum products including cooking gas, it would be easy to supply fuel to other parts of the country, Bhattarai added.
