KATHMANDU: The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) has booked 171 vehicles for breaching the rule of ‘no-horn’. The no-horn rule has been implemented in the Kathmandu Valley since April 14, 2017. The division has taken this campaign in order to control noise pollution.
Basant Panta, Chief at Division and Senior Superintendent of Police (SP) said that honking has been completely banned except at risky road turnings. The Division has taken action against 30,468 vehicles for breaching the rule after the implementation of the rule. Each vehicle has been charged a fine of Rs 500 for violating the rule.
Noise pollution causes loss of hearing , hypertension, memory loss, cardiovascular effects, including heart-attack risk and respiratory problems. The disabled, children, senior citizens and expectant mothers are more vulnerable to the effects of noise pollution.
