KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Education, and Sports has formed a three-member committee to investigate the alleged involvement of ministry employees in irregularities related to study visa recommendations.
The committee is coordinated by Joint Secretary Chandra Kant Bhusal and has been tasked with examining the role of employees in preparing letters and documents used for study visa recommendations.
The other members of the committee are Under Secretary (Law) Gopi Krishna Regmi and Section Officer Gunaraj Bhattarai. The panel has been given seven days to submit its report.
According to the ministry, the committee will review possible weaknesses in document verification procedures and administrative processes at the employee level.
The investigation was launched after documents submitted for study visa recommendations in the name of Valmiki Vidyapeeth were found to be fraudulent.
The ministry has already directed its subordinate offices to halt further processing of study visa recommendation requests involving foreign nationals until further notice.
Stating that study visa recommendations are closely linked to the credibility of the entire system, the ministry said appropriate administrative and legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
Earlier, the ministry had written to the Ministry of Home Affairs requesting an investigation into the use of suspicious documents and forged receipts.
