PARSA: A total of 47 wildlife at the Parsa National Park were hit to deaths by motor vehicles in the last fiscal year, according to a data.
According to the data made available by the park, a total of 47 wildlife were hit to deaths by motor vehicles during the fiscal year (2018/19).
Road safety has been a major concern for the Park to protect wildlife.
A Royal Bengal tiger, 18 spotted deer, one deer, 14 wild boars, 7 monkeys, one Indian civet, one Yellow Monitor Lizard, among others were hit to deaths by vehicles.
According to Ashok Kumar Ram, Information Officer and Assistant Conservation Officer at the park, vehicles plying via the Pathlaiya- Amlekhgunj route that passes through the park’s central part pose threat to wildlife.
The vehicles, he said, hit them to death. Ashok said they have also launched an awareness campaign. They are distributing pamphlets, posters and even stickers to make them aware that even a minor negligence could take an animal’s life.
The Park has currently 18 Royal Bengal tigers, 54 elephants, 105 blue bulls, and seven rhinos.
