KATHMANDU: Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal held a courtesy meeting with Scott Urbom , the Acting Ambassador of the United States to Nepal, on Thursday.
During the meeting, Speaker Aryal said Nepal has entered a new phase of its political journey following the successful completion of parliamentary elections. He stated that the current government is committed to stability, transformation, transparency, good governance, and institutional reforms, according to the Speaker’s secretariat.
He added that the House of Representatives is actively engaged in lawmaking, effective executive oversight, constructive parliamentary debate, and the protection of democratic values in line with citizens’ expectations for good governance and rapid economic development.
The Speaker noted that Nepal and the United States have maintained close, friendly, and cooperative relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1947, based on mutual respect, development cooperation, and people-to-people relations. He also said both countries continue to uphold shared democratic values, human rights, and freedom.
Highlighting the upcoming 80th anniversary of Nepal–US diplomatic relations, Speaker Aryal expressed confidence that the occasion would provide an opportunity to review eight decades of friendship and further strengthen future cooperation.
He suggested organizing parliamentary exchange programs to enhance relations between the legislatures of both countries. He also informed that the process of reorganizing the Nepal–US Parliamentary Friendship Group is underway and emphasized the need to reactivate a similar group in the US Congress, stating that such groups play an important role in promoting parliamentary relations, trade, investment, tourism, and cultural exchange.
Speaker Aryal also acknowledged the United States as a key development partner of Nepal, expressing gratitude for its contributions since the 1950s in social and economic development, institutional strengthening, and human capital development. He reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations and expressed hope for continued US support.
Acting Ambassador Scott Urbom reiterated the United States’ commitment to its long-standing friendly and cooperative relations with Nepal. He said the US is interested in further strengthening cooperation in democratic values, good governance, economic development, and people-to-people ties, according to the Speaker’s secretariat.
