KATHMANDU: The 7th century Kashtamandap, which was damaged in the 2015 earthquake, has seen fifty percent of its reconstruction progress.

The reconstruction of the historic monument will be completed within the stipulated time if the works are carried out as planned, said Rajesh Shakya, chairperson of Kashtamandap.

Shalya said the reconstruction of the four main wooden pillars has been erected. The wall-rising between the pillars has also been completed.

A total of 30 workers are currently mobilized to expedite the reconstruction works.

Earlier, the reconstruction of Kashtamandap was delayed owing to the lack of construction materials such as wood and brick.

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has provided an assistance of Rs 55 million for the reconstruction of this historical site.

The reconstruction of this monument is estimated to be completed at the cost of Rs 190 million, Shakya said.
