2,150 households at high risk of landslide in Myagdi



MYAGDI: Around 2,150 households in Myagdi are at high risk of flood and landslide, according to the Department of Soil Conservation and Watershed Management, Parbat.

It said soil erosion has been creating problem in several places in Myagdi district. According to the Department, around 3,745,690 cubic meter soil has been eroded from the 2,297 square kilometer area.

Due to underground water flow, sloppy land, and the expansion of road near the human settlements have contributed to the increasing the risk of landslide, said Office Chief Krishan Ghimire.

He added that Myagdi district is prone to the natural disaster. Meanwhile, he said that the allocated budget for disaster prevention and management was not sufficient.

According to him, landslides and flood could hit hard around 367 village municipalities, including Gurja, Begkhola, Mudi, Rum, Niskota, Pulachowr, Narchayang, Pakha Pani, and Muna, of the total 41 village municipalities in the district.
