KATHMANDU: Minister for Health and Food Safety Nisha Mehta on Friday visited the Singha Durbar Vaidyakhana at Anamnagar, Kathmandu.
During the visit, the Minister stressed the need to make the production of Ayurvedic and herbal medicines more effective, ensuring sufficient output to meet domestic demand.
She also urged the Vaidyakhana management to submit details of required resources, equipment, and workforce needed for prompt reforms aimed at strengthening the facility, improving production efficiency, and enhancing market promotion. The Minister further directed improvements in overall cleanliness and management.
Health Ministry Secretary Dr. Bikash Devkota stated that the production of Singha Durbar Vaidyakhana, the government-run entity for manufacturing Ayurvedic and herbal medicines, meets quality standards. However, he added that its capacity should be further expanded.
Vaidyakhana Executive Director Dr. Pradeep KP informed the Minister about the organization’s products, which include medicines and food supplements. He said the company, which had been suffering losses for the past five years, has now returned to profit following an increase in medicine production.
According to him, the Vaidyakhana currently manufactures 103 types of medicines and has the capacity to increase production further, provided adequate government support is ensured.
