Government to honor athletes



KATHMANDU: The government has decided to honor the athletes winning laurels in various competitions with cash prize worth Rs 15.6 million.

The recipients of the cash award include players from cricket, football, bodybuilding and those who participated in the South Asian Games.

A meeting of the cabinet on February 8 took the decision to this effect, according to Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Baskota.

According to him, the cabinet also decided to table the National Sports Development Bill, 2075, the Safeguards, anti-dumping and counter-vailing Bill, 2075 in the Houseof Representatives (HoR). The meeting also approved the Prime Minister Employment Program Operation Directive, 2075, and Buddhist Philosophy Promotion and Monastery Development Committee formation (first amendment) order, 2075.

Meanwhile, the government will also present the Millennium Challenge Compact reached between Nepal and the MCC of the USA for approval of the HoR. It has also decided to amend the Immigration Regulations, 2051, schedule 11.

Likewise, the government has decided to designate senior Director at the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA), Purottam Khanal as the Officiating Chair of the Authority.
