KATHMANDU: Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Parbat Gurung, has said government was committed to sorting out problems facing women. Minister Gurung also sought suggestion from all sides concerned to bring quality change in women’s life.
At an interaction program organized by the National Network of Women Rights Defenders here Thursday, Minister Gurung viewed there was no option but to solve the problems plaguing women in order to achieve sustainable development.
The emergency rescue facility provided to pregnant and women at delivery would be made more effective, he said, adding that 30 such women were rescued and brought to better health facility via helicopter in recent four months alone. The government had aimed at providing air service to as many as 50 needy women in the current fiscal year.
The pregnant and those giving birth but facing complication were airlifted to better medical facility from remote districts as Humla, Dolakha, Rukum East, Jajarkot, Salyan, Solukhumbu, Gorkha, Dhading, Kalikot and Myagdi. However, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission, Anup Raj Sharma, accused the government of not being serious to protect and promote women’s rights.
