KATHMANDU: Around 1.9 million domestic workers, mostly women, have been deprived of minimum remuneration, according to the Home Workers’ Trade Union (HUN).

Since the government has not recognized it as the sector of employment, domestic workers are being exploited.

The HUN said many of the domestic workers are women. The HUN has been raising their voices in favor of domestic workers saying that they are deprived of facilities and remuneration granted by the government.

The Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security has fixed Rs 13, 450 as the minimum monthly salary effective from the current fiscal year.

Nonetheless, the women domestic workers do not get the remuneration as fixed by the government, said Chandra Sagar Lama, president of the HUN.
