KATHMANDU: The westerly wind has yielded snowfall in the highlands and some hilly parts of the country, forcing the people in general to hurdle around fire on Friday morning.

The temperature has gone down across the nation. The normal life has been affected due to snowfall in the mountainous districts including Mugu, Dolpa and Humla. This is the early snowfall in highlands ever experienced in the last eight years in the country, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD).

However, the farmers in the mountainous districts have been elated with the snowfall as it would make the soil loose and help grow better crops.

Heavy snowfall is likely in the highlands with chances of light to moderate snowfall in the hilly parts of the country. People in the hilly parts of the western region are advised to take precaution.

This kind of weather will continue for the next two days and it will gradually clear from Sunday, said meteorologist Shanti Kandel.

According to Kandel, the weather will be generally to fully cloudy on Friday night with chances of light rain in many parts of the western region and at few places in the eastern region.
