Minister Yadav walking out of interview goes viral on social media

KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health and Population Upendra Yadav became irritated by the questions posed by a journalist of Avenues TV and walked out of the interview on Sunday.

Minister Yadav, who is also Chairman of newly formed Samajbadi Party Nepal, lost his diplomatic cool, threw away the pin mike and walked out of the interview after being questioned about his party’s future plans.

As soon as the program host asked what his new party would deliver to the people, Yadav got irritated and stormed back saying: “First you need to show decency while asking questions, and said he would rather walk away than answering to such imprudent questions.”

He then stood up and walked out of the studio when the host, who continued to ask queries, said: “It’s your choice.”

In a series of questions, the host initially probed on the government’s performance, including the government’s decision to bring the new act on media while the minister kept on defending the government’s move saying that the government was not in a mood to curb press freedom. “We have struggled a lot than you guys (journalists) for press freedom, we were put behind bars,” the minister said.

The tension between the two had already risen minutes after the interview got underway as the interview discussed the government’s failure to address people’s aspirations.

Yadav reacted strongly to the flurry of queries coming from the interviewer.

Video clips of the interview went viral on social media on Monday in the country, with opinion divided as to whether Minister Yadav was right to walk out of the studio.
