NC President Deuba dubs Media Council Bill a ‘coup’ on free press

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has dubbed the proposed media bill as a ‘coup’ on free press.

Organizing a press conference at the party head office in Sanepa today, NC supremo Deuba alleged the government of heading towards authoritarianism while vowing to compel the government to withdraw the bill, which he claimed was a blatant attack on free press.

Be assured, the government will be compelled to withdraw it,” Deuba told journalists saying that Nepali Congress has taken this issue seriously.

Party spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma came down heavily on the ruling party, Nepal Communist Party, while alleging it of attacking on press freedom to establish an authoritarian regime, which he said was unacceptable.
