Rs 2.2 bln embezzled in Melamchi project



KATHMANDU:  A total of Rs 2.2 billion is found to have been embezzled in the long overdue Melamchi drinking water project. Of the total 25 billion rupees spent in the project so far, Rs 2.2 billion is found to have been misappropriated, according to the Office of Attorney General.

The Attorney General is  preparing to submit an audit report to the President. Rs 266 million has been spent for consultation service alone, said the audit report. Similarly, Rs 17.98 billion has been spend for construction while 725.4 million has been spent for administrative work.

Likewise, the project has spent Rs 1.87 billion has been spent in the name of improving the social status of the local people.
