Ward chairman accused of witchcraft, thrashed

CHITWAN: A gang of local youths has thrashed Ward Chairman Panch Bahadur Praja of Ichhakamana Rural Municipality-3 of the district after branding him a witch.

They also tried to put a garland made of shoes around the neck and also attempted to feed him urine and stool on Saturday evening, according to District Police Office, Chitwan.

A gang including locals Uttam Kumar Gurung, Birkha Bahadur Gurung among others were involved in the manhandling of the ward chairman.

Police have arrested the duo for their involvement in the attack.

The thrashing comes on the heels of a dispute that occurred after the youth aligned to the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) padlocked the ward office.

The situation turned ugly after the ward office was being shifted to a community hall.
