Nepali Embassy, Delhi Police rescue 179 Nepali hostages



KATHMANDU: Delhi Police along with the joint efforts of Nepali Embassy in New Delhi have rescued 179 Nepali youths taken hostage by manpower agents, from New Delhi.

Khabarhub had earlier published a news based on field reporting from the Indian capital of New Delhi revealing that employment agents were active in trafficking Nepali youths to India from Nepal. The Nepali youths were bound for third countries for work via India.

A total of 147 women and 32 males were rescued, according to Prakash Adhikari, Consular at the embassy. The traffickers had taken hostage of the Nepali youths luring them of sending to European and African countries via Infal area of Manipur in India.

Delhi police in coordination with Nepali Embassy in New Delhi conducted the rescue operation following a field report by Khabarhub.

“The embassy has launched a campaign against human traffickers,” Nepal’s Acting Ambassador to India Bharat Raj Regmi told Khabarhub.

A total of 147 women and 32 males have been rescued, according to Prakash Adhikari, Consular at the embassy. The traffickers had taken hostage of the Nepali youths luring them of sending to European and African countries via Infal area of Manipur in India.

Those rescued will be brought back to Nepal following legal procedures in a few days, Adhikari said.

Meanwhile, Khabarhub has learned that the embassy is collecting the information of the traffickers.

A field report by Khabarhub had revealed that traffickers taken hostage around 4,000 Nepali youth in India assuring of sending them to third countries. The Delhi-based Embassy of Nepal had sprung into action following the news floated by Khabarhub.

“Human trafficking is a serious issue and traffickers are a challenge to the government. Therefore, we are launching action against traffickers in coordination with various organizations,” said Adhikari over the phone from New Delhi.
