UAE satellite launch postponed again

UAE: The launch of the UAE’s newest satellite has been delayed for a second time over poor weather in Guiana.

FalconEye1 was initially due to be launched from Guiana Space Centre on Saturday July 6 but was postponed because of high winds on the eastern coast of South America.

A new time of 5.53am on Monday was set but, on Sunday, Arianespace, the European company behind the launch, said the poor weather had yet to subside and said it would delay lift-off.

“As high-altitude winds above the Guiana Space Center remain unfavorable, Arianespace has taken the decision not to attempt a launch,” a statement from the company said.

It said a new target date would be announced after evaluating weather forecasts for the region.

Upon its launch, Falcon Eye will become the UAE’s 10th satellite in orbit. Built by Airbus Defence and Space and Thales Alenia, the satellite fitted with a high-definition imaging system that will transmit photographs from around the world for military and civilian use for the next 10 years.
