Two die while clearing Melamchi project pipes

KATHMANDU: Two people died in course of clearing pipes of long overdue Melamchi Drinking Water Project in Balaju, Kathmandu, said DSP Hobindra Bogati, spokesperson of Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu.

The deceased have been identified as Suresh Sah, 25, and Shiva Ram Sah, 20 of Saptari. Both of them were siblings.

The victims had entered into the tunnel to clean the gate valve of the pipes at 10 pm on Thursday.

Their co-workers had informed the police after they did not come out of the tunnel even after an hour.

Police retrieved them by using an excavator. One of them died while being rushed to the hospital while the other in course of treatment at TU Teaching Hospital, said DSP Bogati.
