New Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry begins work

KATHMANDU: The newly formed Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation has started its institutional and policy work following the appointment of its leadership.

The ministry was established after the government separated science and technology functions from the former Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and added innovation under a new ministry.

Independent lawmaker Mahabir Pun assumed office as the minister on Tuesday.

The ministry’s secretary, Promila Bajracharya, said the office has begun operating from the building previously used by the Ministry of Youth and Sports at Singha Durbar.

After assuming office, Minister Pun decided to conduct an Organization and Management (O&M) survey, stating that the ministry needs to start its work from scratch.

Secretary Bajracharya said a template for the ministry’s website has already been prepared and submitted to the Department of Information Technology. The website is expected to go online after the required system process is completed.

Currently, 24 staff members are working at the ministry. The number is expected to increase after the new organizational structure is finalized.

Minister Pun has also shifted to Singha Durbar and is making arrangements to maintain his official residence there.
