KATHMANDU: Coronavirus cases in Nepal has reached 281 with confirmation of three cases on Saturday night.
In a statement, Joint Spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population Dr. Samir Kumar Adhikari said that new cases have been reported in Dhanusha and Sindhupalchowk districts.
Among those newly-infected are two men aged 20 and 65 years from Dhanusha and a woman aged 29 of Sindhupalchowk. The woman has died of the disease.
Earlier, today the ministry had confirmed two new coronavirus cases in Nepal taking the tally to 278.
Speaking a regular press meet on Saturday afternoon, Ministry’s Spokesperson Dr. Bikash Devkota had said that a 52-year-old man from Mahottari and a 26-year-old man from Kavre have tested positive.
Both of them are security personnel of the Nepal Army deployed in the Mid-Eastern Division in Mahottari.
Spokesperson Devkota said that the virus has been found in 26 districts and 36 patients have returned home after treatment.
Earlier today, Nepal had reported three new cases had been reported in Kapilvastu district. Among those infected are men aged 25, 34, and 44
The new cases were confirmed after their swabs tested positive for Coronavirus at Provincial Public Health Laboratory, Butwal. Their health condition is said to be normal.
Earlier in the morning, six new cases were reported. Among those infected are three women aged 18, 25 and 28 and three men aged 28, 29 and 30.
They are from Bardiya, Sarlahi, Siraha, and Chitwan. The new cases were confirmed after their swabs tested positive for coronavirus at National Public Health Laboratory, Teku.
So far, 92,440 have been tested including 65,749 through the Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) method and 26, 691 through the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method, said Dr. Devkota.
In the past 24 hours, 5,243 tests were conducted in laboratories around the country.
Currently, there are 16,266 people in quarantine while 320 are in isolation.
Meanwhile, Spokesperson Dr. Devkota urged one and all to help and support the health workers involved in the treatment of COVID-19 patients.
Expressing concern over news reports of landlords harassing health workers, he said we should instead be boosting their morale at this point in time.
“There are very few health workers in our country, and we need to take maximum service from them. Hence, they need to encouraged,” he said.
He also shared that the health workers in the frontline will be tested for coronavirus.
The Ministry has introduced the Health Workers and Staff Management Guidelines, 2020 for those directly involved in the treatment of COVID-19 patients.
This is expected to facilitate and ease the management of doctors, health workers, nurse and other staffers working in the hospitals in the present situation.
