HETAUDA: Doctors across Makwanpur on Wednesday suspended all non-emergency medical services in protest against what they described as the government’s failure to act following a violent attack on healthcare workers at Narayani Hospital in Birgunj.
Medical professionals gathered at Hetauda Hospital and later marched to the District Administration Office, where they submitted a memorandum to Assistant Chief District Officer Mohan Raj Joshi demanding swift action.
The protest, supported by the Association of Private Health Institutions of Nepal (APHIN) and several specialist organizations, has led to the closure of outpatient departments and routine medical services in private, public, and polyclinic facilities across the district.
The Nepal Medical Association (NMA) Makwanpur expressed strong dissatisfaction with the authorities, saying that four days after doctors were assaulted and hospital property was damaged, the accused had still not been arrested. NMA Makwanpur Secretary Dr. Raju Sedhai criticized the Parsa administration and police leadership, alleging that doctors were pressured during discussions instead of the perpetrators being taken into custody.
The association demanded strict legal action, including non-bailable imprisonment for those involved in attacks on hospitals and healthcare workers. It warned that the government would be responsible for forcing medical professionals to leave their workplaces and take to the streets in protest.
