Lawmakers register resolution motion against ‘encroachment’



KATHMANDU: Lawmakers of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) on Sunday registered a resolution motion in the House of Representatives alleging Indian of ‘encroaching’ upon some 400 kilometers under its political and administrative control.

NCP lawmakers, Ram Kumari Jhakri, Ganesh Thagunna, Dipak Prakash Bhatta, Yagya Bahadur Bogati and Ganesh Kumar Pahadi registered the resolution motion demanding the retrieval of the land from Indian clinch.

The inauguration of the Indian road via Nepal’s Lipu Lekh on Friday has infuriated Nepali people including the lawmakers of the ruling and opposition parties alike.

Stating that Kutiyangdi that originates from Limpiyadhura is the Mahakali river, they have claimed that India has kept Nepali land stretching 400 kilometers in the east under its political and administrative control.

Nepal has consistently maintained that as per the Sugauli Treaty of 1816, all the territories east of Kali (Mahakali) River, including Limpiyadhura, Kalapani and Lipu Lekh, belong to Nepal.
