Finance Minister Khatiwada’s three strategies to tackle COVID-19 crisis

KATHMANDU: Minister for Finance along with Minister for Communications, Information and Technology and Spokes person of the government, Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada has shared his three-point strategy to combat COVID-19 induced crisis to national economy.

Taking part in a video conference attended by the delegates of the World Economic Forum and the head of the government and senior officials of South Asian nations, Finance Minister Dr. Khatiwada shared his three-point strategy.

Firstly, he said that there is the need to coordinate for and ensure cross-border and international support to control the unwanted movement of the people at the border and provide facility to the migrant labors.

Then, there is the need to provide and ensure the availability of basic food stuffs, medicine and health materials.

And lastly, there should be postponement of loan payment deadline and redemption of loan so as to empower the economically backward nations to regain the ability to come out from this crisis.
In addition to the government officials, the economists, representatives of private sector and the officials of World Health Organization had attended the video conference.

FM Minister Khatiwada had also updated the participants about the prospective impacts of coronavirus on Nepal’s economy, health sector and lifestyle.

On the occasion, he had shared Nepal’s measures to curb and control coronavirus.

Citing that coronavirus has dragged many to unemployment and poverty he had reiterated in the need to work collaboratively to overcome the financial loss.

He appealed for the joint effort of the government, international organizations/ community and private sector to tackle the hazards caused by COVID-19 pandemic.
