MoFA coordinating with Pakistan in Broad Peak rescue efforts

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has said it is coordinating closely with the Government of Pakistan following the avalanche on Broad Peak in which six Nepali climbers are reported missing.

In a press release issued on Friday, the ministry stated that the Embassy of Nepal in Islamabad is in contact with the relevant Pakistani authorities and the Alpine Club of Pakistan to facilitate the swift and safe rescue of all climbers affected by the incident.

According to the ministry, Pakistani officials have informed the embassy that search and rescue operations are continuing.

The Broad Peak expedition led by renowned mountaineer Nirmal Purja (Nims Dai) includes Nepali climbers Pur Bahadur Gurung (Yukta), Kili Pemba Sherpa (Kilu), Nima Sherpa, Nawang Thindu Sherpa, and Gyalu Sherpa. The team also includes Nadhira Ahmed Abdullah Al Harthi of Oman, Sohail Sakhi of Pakistan, Wang Zhong of China, and Mallory Geis of the United States.

The ministry said it has received assurances from the Pakistani government that all available resources will be mobilized to make the search and rescue operation effective.
