COVID-19 death toll climbs to 4,032 in Italy after 627 die in a single day

KATHMANDU: Coronavirus has claimed 627 people in 24 hours in Italy, taking the total death toll to 4, 032. This number is exceeds by 200 than that of Thursday’s. Italy had recorded 427 on Thursday.

The new infection rate from the coronavirus in the country is equally alarming. The new infection rate was 3,500 on  average on a daily basis until Wednesday but this number soared to 6,000 on Friday.

The country recorded 5,986 new cases of coronavirus. With this, the total number of infection cases has reached 47,021 as of Friday.

The condition of 2,655 people among those 37, 837 undergoing treatment is critical.

A lockdown imposed on 12 March in Italy has been extended beyond the original 25 March end date.

Despite lockdown and other preventive measures, the death rate from the novel virus has increased in an alarming rate in Italy.

The government has told nearly all Italians to undergo self-quarantine.
