KATHMANDU : The birthday of Indian singer Lohit Gogoi will be celebrated in Nepal as “Love, Peace, Brotherhood and Harmony Day” on March 30.

Lohit, 53, recently told this to the media at his residence at Lekhapani under Margherita subdivision of Assam’s Tinsukia district.

“I have received a special invitation letter from Nepal. It is written there that my birthday will be celebrated as ‘Love, Peace, Brotherhood and Harmony Day’ between the two countries,” the singer said.

Sabhyta Anusandhan Kendra Private Ltd will organize the program in cooperation with the ministry of culture, Nepal government.

Nepal’s Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli, minister for culture, tourism and civil aviation Yogesh Kumar Bhattarai and eminent personalities from the field of politics, cinema, theatre, art, music, and literature will be present on the occasion.

“I am going to take part in the program with a troupe who will present Bihu and Xattriya dances and other dance forms and songs of our state. Khub bhal lagise (feeling very good),” Lohit said.

He has already been felicitated with “Himanta Hurjya Bota” and sung several Assamese songs sung by music maestro Bhupen Hazarika in Nepali language.

“I went to Nepal with songs of Bhupenda translated by Ram Dhakal, a teacher here. For those songs former Nepal President Ram Baran Yadav felicitated me in 2012. The people of Nepal respect me and have showered their love on me. I am feeling a deep satisfaction that I am invited there on my birthday,” Lohit said.

“We are feeling very proud that songs, music, and culture of our state is getting popularity across the globe. Moreover, there is a long history of cultural ties with Nepal,” Amar Sarma, a teacher, said.
