Health Ministry urges people not to panic over common cold

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health has urged one and all not to panic over common cold linking it with coronavirus.

Spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population, Mahendra Prasad Shrestha, raised concern over some hospitals that were unnecessarily referring patients to Teku Hospital for lab tests.

Shrestha said if a person contracts with corona virus, he/she may have symptoms within 15 days.

“Therefore, it’s useless to panic after 15 days,” Shrestha added.

Shrestha also said they were shocked to witness the influx at the hospital on Wednesday for corona virus test.

The Ministry said that people having common cold need not panic at all.

Shrestha, however, said that only one person was suspected of the virus and was taken for observation.

According to the Ministry, the government has maintained high alert on it since January 23 after a person coming from China was detected with corona virus.

Meanwhile, the Home Ministry has said Rasuwagadhi and Tatopani border points between Nepal and China have been closed for 15 days with the agreement between the two governments.

Likewise, every tourist is monitored at the Tribhuvan International Airport, and the hospitals have been asked to maintain alertness.
