Speaker Sapkota relinquishes party’s membership

KATHMANDU: Soon after assuming the post of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nepal Communist Party (NCP) leader Agni Prasad Sapkota has announced of giving up the general membership of the party.

The announcement has been made in order to assume the role of the speaker in an independent and impartial manner.

“Henceforth, I declare that I am no longer involved in any responsibility under the NCP with effect from today, reads a statement issued by the Speaker here today.”I hereby inform of my disassociation as a member of the NCP.”

A standing committee member of the ruling NPC, leader Sapkota was elected unanimously the Speaker of the Lower House on Sunday.

He assumed his office after taking the oath of office and secrecy earlier today.
