KATHMANDU: Former mayor of Kapilvastu Municipality and Nepali Congress leader Kiran Singh, who had been missing for the past three days, has been found dead.
The body of the 65-year-old Singh was discovered in the Gorusinge forest area of Kapilvastu on Sunday, according to Kapilvastu Police Chief Superintendent of Police Manohar Bhatta.
Singh had left his residence in Kapilvastu Municipality-3 at around 2:00 pm on Friday and had remained out of contact since then.
Police said the motorcycle used by Singh, bearing registration number LPR 01-013 PA 7970, was found parked in a forest area about eight kilometers from the East-West Highway.
A search operation had been launched after he was reported missing, and trained police dogs from Gautam Buddha Airport were also deployed in the search.
His body was recovered from the forest following a three-day search operation. Police said further investigation into the incident is underway. Singh was a former mayor of Kapilvastu Municipality and an active leader of the Nepali Congress.
