NSU cadres engage in a brawl at party central office

KATHMANDU: Less than 48 hours after the Nepali Congress (NC) top brass settled disputed issues, two factions of its student’s wing Nepal Students Union (NSU) engaged themselves in a brawl at the party central office in Sanepa today.

The clash ensued when the faction led by NSU General Secretary Kundan Kafle, which was staging a protest against the party leadership alleging it of conspiring while picking NSU office bearers, was suddenly attacked by another group of students.

The clash ensued over the demand that the party should abide by the NSU statute which has fixed an age limit of 32 years for its central committee.

According to the NSU statute, its central committee member has to be below 32 years. The Kafle-faction has alleged the party leadership of flouting the party statute by nominating a senior student to the post of NSU.

Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba has made up his mind to pick Rajiv Dhungana, 50, to the post of NSU President.
