Deuba endeavors to appease ‘displeased’ leaders

KATHMANDU: Senior leaders of the Nepali Congress (NC) party are holding a ‘crucial’ meeting at the party President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s residence in Budhanilkantha.

Party insiders told Khabarhub that the meeting has been called to ‘thrash out’ internal differences within the party.

“He (President Deuba) has called the meeting in a bid to resolve the internal dispute and try to convince the dissatisfied leaders about his previous decisions,” a party leader said.

Senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel, who has been expressing disappointment over Deuba’s ‘monopolistic attitude’ while making decisions, is also attending the meeting.

Other leaders including party Prakash Man Singh, Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Bimalendra Nidhi are also in the meeting.

Poudel and his faction are disgruntled with the Deuba faction after the latter unilaterally decided to extend his term for one year and announced the date for the next general convention of the party.

On December 27 last year, a central committee meeting of the party – boycotted by Poudel and Sitaula – had decided to extend the term of the party president until March 3, 2021. Likewise, the meeting had also decided to hold the party’s general convention from February 19-22, 2021.
