Road mishap: 76 people died in last five months

KATHMANDU: A total of 2, 789 people lost their lives in vehicular accidents across the country in the year fiscal year 2075/76.

In the current fiscal, a total of 921 people lost their lives in the road accident.

Similarly, a total of 259 people lost their lives in the capital last year while 76 died in the last five months of the fiscal year in the Kathmandu Valley alone.

Human fault is attributed to the main cause behind the road accident, according to the General Director of the Department of Roads. The vehicular speed limit should be controlled and drunk driving should be strictly banned to minimize the road accidents, he suggested.

He further said that the Office has been carrying out road maintenance work patching up potholes.
