Deuba, Poudel factions rigid to their respective stands

KATHMANDU: The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) is currently caught in a quagmire.

Party’s senior leader Ramchandra Poudel and his faction did not turn up at today’s central working committee (CWC) meeting arguing that the party leadership, mainly party President Sher Bahadur Deuba for failing to produce the schedule for the party’s 14th general convention.

The general convention-related issues have adversely affected the CWC meeting lately.

Instead of attending today’s CWC meeting, senior leader Poudel flew to Pathibhara in Taplejung district.

It should be noted that party President Deuba had on Saturday reached Poudel’s residence in a bid to forge consensus on the contentious issues and to convince Poudel to attend the meeting.

According to Spokesperson Bishwo Prakash Sharma, Poudel reiterated his stand urging Deuba to finalize the convention schedule and intensify efforts to convene the general convention.

President Deuba, meanwhile, urged Poudel to agree on the completion of the internal adjustment first.
