Swedish teenager Greta Thunberg named Person of the Year

LONDON:  Swedish teenager Greta Thunberg has been named Time magazine’s Person of the Year for 2019.

The 16-year-old climate activist from Sweden is the magazine’s youngest choice to be named Person of the Year.

The magazine announced the 16-year-old as its choice Wednesday exclusively on the “TODAY” show.

“She became the biggest voice on the biggest issue facing the planet this year, coming from essentially nowhere to lead a worldwide movement,” said Time editor-in-chief Edward Felsenthal.

Thunberg stole limelight as one of the world’s most notable climate change activists after she protested alone outside the Swedish Parliament during school hours on Fridays when she was 15.
